Horse and dog tracks are allowed in most states because they are "pari-mutual".

It seems to me, this means there is a big pool everyone pays into, and the house gets a cut for servicing and distributing the pool.

How is that any different than an online poker tournament? I guess there might be laws preventing cards for money, but how can one form of pari-mutual be ok, and not another?

Anyone know law well enough? Or know someone who could look into this? Heck maybe we could buy the US party poker franchise and start our pari-mutual poker site.

Come to think of it, lotteries seem to be the same thing.

I dont pretend to know anything about the legalities, but common sense makes me think poker at least, should be ok in states with lotteries and animal racing
