4* LA Rams +4 1/2:

So the book on Tom Brady has been fairly clear this season. Brady can still exploit teams that offer little QB pressure and have lousy cornerbacks. But when that isn?t the case, like against Chicago or New Orleans, Brady becomes a very ordinary quarterback and will go to great lengths to get rid of the football quickly creating turnovers. Taking a look at the Tampa Bay wins this year, the Buccaneers really haven?t posted many quality wins. They?ve defeated Carolina twice, the Giants, Chargers, and Broncos. They did beat Green Bay and the Raiders. But the Packers are very erratic at best. Right now the Raiders might be among the better teams but their defense is nothing special. The Rams are very special in the two areas I mentioned above. Aaron Donald and Leonard Floyd are in the top-10 in sacks with a combined 16. Jalen Ramsey and Troy Hill are certainly among the best pairings in the league at corner. Certainly the Andrew Whitworth injury at tackle last week hurts the Rams on the offensive line. But remember the Bucs are still without Vita Vea at defensive tackle so perhaps the Whitworth loss is neutralized. It?s really difficult to run on the Rams. Yes Tampa had 210 yards against Denver, but 98 of those came on one play. The other 112 came on 36 carries or about three yards per attempt. This team had eight yards on five carries against the Giants, setting a record for fewest attempts in a game. The Rams entered this week #2 in total defense, #5 against the run, #3 versus the pass, and #3 in sacks. They are #8 in rushing with Darrell Henderson, Malcolm Brown, and Cam Akers combining for over 1,000-yards and nine touchdowns. The Rams are #7 in passing with Jared Goff and the receivers might not get as much name-recognition as the Bucs? arsenal but they aren?t bad with Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods, Josh Reynolds, and Tyler Higbee. The Rams have allowed just 97-points in their last six games. I thought it was interesting that 10 of Goff?s 13 touchdown passes this year have come on the road. Goff threw for 490 yards last year against Tampa when the Rams recorded 36 first downs and 40-points and somehow lost thanks to a 4-1 deficit in turnovers (also had 106 penalty yards). The Bucs are 0-9-1 ATS as a favorite off a game as a favorite of at least three-points and covering by at least seven points. Let?s not forget the last time the Rams came to Florida they somehow lost to Miami despite a 31-8 edge in first downs and a 471-145 advantage in total yards. That was the game the Dolphins had 28-points at halftime and had 56-total yards. Think turnovers matter in the NFL? The Rams last week certainly disrupted Russell Wilson forcing him into three turnovers and holding Seattle to 16-points. Tampa is 5-17-2 ATS as a home favorite in their last 24 and that includes their last home game, an embarrassment to the organization, against Brees and the Saints on Sunday night. I kind of lean to ?UNDER? in this game although it?s difficult considering last year?s score was 55-40 in LA. The Rams need a strong defensive effort here because they are only averaging 21.6 points per game in their last half-dozen games. The Rams are 4-0 when Goff does not throw an interception and last week he was 27-of-37 versus Seattle for over 300-yards and no interceptions. Watch Goff tonight as ultimately he will probably determine our fates. The Bucs are #1 versus the run so the QB position will be the ultimate factor tonight but I think the Rams are capable of giving Brady more problem than the Bucs with Goff. Decent value here tonight @ +4 1/2 too. FYI: Teams with Coach Arians are 33-16 ?OVER? since mid-2016 (Cardinals/Bucs). Tampa 2-10 ATS versus the NFC West while the Rams are 11-4 straight-up and ATS away on Monday Night Football including 5-0 SU and ATS when coming off a win of seven or fewer points.

Wow! 4.5 points? These two teams are very evenly matched. The Buccaneers have played two above-average teams, the Saints and Packers. They lost both to New Orleans but manhandled Green Bay. The Rams like to run the ball and play keep away, plus they have a Top-5 defense. It's true the Rams haven't played a team as balanced as Tampa, but I still think this one will be extremely tight. Take the points.

Market update

8:15 p.m. ET: Los Angeles Rams at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

This line opened with Tampa Bay listed as a 3.5-point home favorite. The public is split and doesn't know who to take. On the one hand, they love getting points with a good team like the Rams. But they are also wary of betting against Tom Brady laying a short spread. Despite this even betting, we've seen the Bucs move from -3.5 to -4. Some shops are even hanging -4.5. In a vacuum, a line shouldn't move at all if the tickets are split. So we know this adjustment toward Tampa Bay was caused by respected pro money backing the Bucs. Jerome Boger is the lead ref tonight, which also favors Tampa. Home teams are 56% ATS when Boger is the head official.

Despite the line move against them, the Rams fit a pair of profitable systems this season. Short road dogs + 6 or less are 38-24 ATS (61%) this season and primetime dogs are 21-12 ATS (64%).

We've also seen some wiseguy money hit the under, dropping the total from 48.5 to 48. Primetime unders are 21-12 (64%) this season. The Rams are a big under team (7-2) while the Bucs have been profitable to the over (6-4).
