For those of us who like to play poker, MGM announced this past week that they are closing the poker rooms at Mandalay Bay, Excalibar and the Mirage permanently. For years I have played at Mandalay and Mirage so I will really miss those two rooms. Really a shame but not a surprise with the way the pandemic has hit us all. The Mirage and Excalibur have replaced the rooms with slot machines. Mandalay Bay is rumored to possibly reclaim the space to expand its Sportsbook as part of a long overdue renovation. Hopefully that’s what they do as the sportsbook at Mandalay is pretty old and they are still using old schoolhouse seating.

Played at Bellagio many times (one 20/40 NLH game which was insane w/ Scotty Nguyen at my table) but I especially liked the crew at Mandalay. A highlight from Mirage was playing poker with a couple of band members from Hall & Oates. They were good dudes and left me tickets for the show that night in Oct of 2014.
