Prediction Machine CFB PICK: Indiana Hoosiers +20.5

Why will Indiana cover the spread?

In order to keep this game close, Indiana will need to slow down Justin Fields and limit his efficiency. So far this season, Fields’ production has been other-worldly. His 86.7 percent completion rate is 10 points higher than the next closest player, his 10.9 yards per attempt leads the Big Ten and is third best in the country, and he’s thrown 11 touchdowns to zero interceptions. He’s the only QB (out of 51 qualified) who hasn’t thrown an interception while having thrown at least nine touchdowns. Indiana ranks 21st overall with 6.4 yards allowed per pass attempt thus far, and they’ve intercepted opposing QBs a Big-Ten-high 10 times through four games. The Hoosiers also lead the Big Ten with 12 sacks on the season, so they have a good chance to disrupt Fields’ timing and force him into negative plays.
Indiana’s red zone defense has been elite this season. They’ve allowed opponents to score on just 44.4 percent of their red zone trips, which is the lowest rate in the country. If they can force Ohio State into field goals or, better yet, turnovers in the red zone instead of touchdowns, they’ll have a great chance to cover the lofty three-touchdown spread.

UCLA quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson is among the Bruins in doubt for Saturday's game at Oregon because of COVID concerns.

A group hit Oregon -13.5, -14 & -14.5 in front of the news. UCLA +13.5 was an early sharp buy until the group hit.

Now some UCLA buyout with Oregon -13.5 to -14.5, but a lot of sharps on UCLA +13.5

You may think Oregon just got by Washington St wining by 14 but they were -3 turnovers. In fact very few teams are good enough to be -5 TO’s after two games get win by 21 and 14 points and cover both. UCLA comes in 1-1 after losing at Colorado and beating a Cal squad that shifted gears to travel to UCLA and playa Sunday morning game. The Bruins allowed 526 yards at Colorado and that number is likely to get topped on Saturday night. Oregon by 24+ in this match-up.

A battle of one-win teams will take place in the Big Ten on between Illinois and Nebraska on Saturday. Despite averaging 20 points this season, the Cornhuskers find themselves as steep favorites. Offensive improvement with a quarterback switch to freshman Luke McCaffrey should continue to blossom. Grab the Huskers to cruise at home against the Fighting Illini.

Out in the Mountain West, Nevada will aim to stay undefeated as it takes on San Diego State. A reason for the Wolf Pack’s hot start has been the big increase of play from sophomore quarterback Carson Strong. Yet, Nevada faced a Wyoming team that lost its starting quarterback in the first series, and three winless teams in UNLV, Utah State and New Mexico. Grab the value here on the Aztecs.

My model says FIU covers 70 percent of the time and projects the Panthers to win 24-22, so you're getting value at this number. Western Kentucky averages just 14.7 points per game; only three teams are worst. The Hilltoppers just don't score enough to be this big of a favorite. Take FIU.

CINCY -4.5
CINCY @ UCF | 11/21 | 3:30 PM ESTYESTERDAY 7:17 PM
Cincinnati is the No. 4 team in the country according to my power simulations. The Bearcats are 6-0 this season and winning by an average of 28 points a game against FBS opponents. They also are 8-1 ATS in their last nine games, while UCF is just 1-5 ATS in its last six. My model says Cincy covers almost 60 percent of the time, so you're getting strong value at this number. Take the Bearcats.

Betting against the Buckeyes is usually bad for business, but numbers are numbers and mine say they should only be -17 with a home field edge built-in against Indiana. The Hoosiers have had their rating upgraded each week after winning and covering all four games, and the Buckeyes' massive rating, my No.1 overall, still doesn’t get to -20.5. It's a small disparity, but just the excuse I needed to ride with Indiana which has covered the past five meetings with Ohio State. The Hoosiers will play well. I bet them to cover.
